@katespadeny Prize Ball Pop Top Mittens

In need of a Hanukkah or Christmas gift? If you have a Kate Spade store near you I highly recommend stopping by for these super soft mittens, that just happen to be on sale! I bought my pair a month or so ago and I get so many compliments I'm afraid someone will snatch them off my hands! I love the fact that the thumb has a "pop top" so if you're like me and are constantly texting/tweeting you don't have to take off your entire glove. I've seen plenty of gloves that claim to be "fingerless" until you get to the thumb that is. These glove makers must not use a smartphone. But I digress, let's get back to these colorful lovelies. They're made of 100% wool and after some use they do pill a bit, but for me it's hardly noticeable. There is a cuff, but if you wanted to extend it to give it a long-glove look you could and they still look fabulous, but would you expect anything less from Kate? And they most definitely keep my hands warm, so far the temps have fallen into the high 20's in my neck-of-the-woods and these mittens have kept my mitts nice and toasty! I will say that, on my mittens at least, the loop that holds the flap in place (if you're not covering up your fingers) is a bit tight so it's hard to wrap around the button if you have your mittens on. But that is a very minor detail in what is otherwise a very fab pair of gloves! If you want to buy a pair for yourself and you're not in a rush to get them before Christmas head on over to the Kate Spade website and order a pair before they're gone! Did I mention they're on sale? Oh and one last thing...free shipping! My two fave words when ordering online, music to my ears. :)

If you do need them before Christmas you have until noon Eastern time today to place your order with over night shipping, but it'll cost ya.

Review: Sally Hansen Smooth and Perfect Color Care

Wednesday, December 7, 2011
4 comments
So last week I posted this eureka moment on my Tumblr, now here's a review for you.

I've always tried to DIY my nails at home since manis can get expensive, but every time I tried I would always get "bubbles" in the polish and then just get frustrated and reach for the nail polish remover. I did the whole routine, top coat, base coat, filing, buffing, the works! And still the bubbles would appear. Even my hubby sensed my frustration because he eventually told me he knew I wasn't making it up and just go ahead and pay for a manicure. Well not anymore! While I was in Memphis, Horn Lake, Mississippi to be exact we went to Walmart and I found this:

Sally Hansen Smooth and Perfect Color Care in Linen

It's called Smooth and Perfect by Sally Hansen it claimed to "hide ridges with a breathable porcelain-smooth finish" I also picked up the Insta-Dri which said it would dry your polish in 30 minutes and let me tell you I've tried the canned dry stuff and I have a little dryer to put my hands in, but the next morning I still have those "flattened" marks on my nails. Since I had nothing better to do since I was stuck in our hotel room all day enjoying the alone time, I filed my nails, said a little prayer and applied the polish as directed. Eureka!! It worked, no bubbles here! #Winning And the Insta-Dri? Yep my nails were dry in 30 minutes and yes I did time it cause I'm a nerd like that. ;) Here's what my nails looked like dry:

Nails

I know you can't really tell, but I did pick a lighter color since I previously had on Carry On by Essie, I figured my nails needed to breathe. But I'm here to say, sorry Essie but you've been replaced, although I am going to try using my Essie and OPI polishes with only the Insta-Dri and see if I get the dreaded bubbles. I'll keep you posted on how that goes. But as long as Sally Hansen doesn't discontinue this line I'll be a happy camper and if they do...well we won't go down that path. :)

I love my multi-colored beaded necklace

I found this necklace at Serenity Salon they have a little boutique near the front of the salon that sells clothing and jewelry and I always make a stop in there before my haircut. I haven't tried any of the clothing since it is a bit pricey, but the do have some great pieces of jewelry. This necklace was about $36 and also came with a pair of earrings. It gives whatever outfit I'm wearing a shot of color and it has an extender so I can wear it long or short.

On a side note my blazer is from the LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's collection. Color is Burlwood. Review coming soon.

On a recent trip to TJ Maxx as I was walking through the purse area I passed by the clearance section and found this gem begging to be picked up, so of course, I did!

Well I didn't just pick it up, I bought it! How could I not? This bag normally costs $348 and I got it for $70! Hello! #Winning Have I mentioned how much I love TJ Maxx? Now for the review...I love it! I could seriously carry everything in this thing and the kitchen sink. Of course the problem with that is that things can get lost, but dear Mr. Kors has thought of that and put a key clip inside for those of us who have to dump out our entire purse in search of our keys (not me, I have no idea what you're talking about) along with four pockets on the inside that will fit my Android EVO and my iTouch and there's also an inside zip pocket as well. Another plus with me when it comes to bags is feet on the bottom, I love that! I love the feel of the leather, it's super soft. I also like the pattern that the blue tie-dye makes on the bag. One of the best things I love about this bag is that the outside zipper doesn't end at the edge, it goes past the edge of the bag so that you don't have this huge inside, but a small opening at the top so you can hardly see what's inside. I hate that! You can open the top of this bag and really be able to see what you have inside your bag unless of course you pack it full and can't find anything because of that, I would never do such a thing! ;) So if you happen to be at your TJ Maxx or are on vacay and decide to do a little shopping and find this beauty, my suggestion? Snap.it.up! ASAP!

Aldo - Crier Platform Heels

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love, love, love ShopStyle! You can have notifications sent to you when your fave clothing, shoes, or bags go on sale, you can have all of a certain designers line on notification or just a few pieces it's completely up to you I think this is a fab idea for a girl on a budget. And that's how I found these lovelies from Aldo.

Their name is Crier and they have about a 5" heel on them and I love that, but these are definitely not made for an extended period of standing or walking, even in an office setting. I have other shoes that are 5" heels that I've gone shopping at Walmart in so I am used to walking in that high of a heel. I didn't send these back because I do like them, but I don't see myself wearing them anywhere other than the office and if I know I'll have to make a trip to the courthouse or make a grocery run after work I won't wear these. I'm also glad that I bought these on sale instead of paying the full price because if I had paid full price then I definitely would have sent them back when I saw this:

Yes, I do believe those holes should be aligned and have actual holes that go all the way through! This strap was definitely a big fail. And if you're paying $80 for anything, in my opinion, it should be finished and not look like something that was just thrown together because there happen to be some material left over, but since I only paid $25 for them I could look past that.
My shopping experience online with Aldo was great and I'll definitely shop there again, but I'll be hesitant to buy anything with an ankle strap unless it's a really good sale price.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Missoni for Target

I finally got a chance to get to Target and check out the Missoni for Target line after work today. I guess I should've gone this morning, because what I found was nada! Zip, zero, zilch. Well maybe not zilch, but basically it was just a couple of scarves, tights and a clutch. From what I heard from the employees it was like Black Friday this morning and there really wasn't a whole lot of inventory anyway. I did manage to find some pieces that people tried to hide (FYI, trying to hide stuff from me is futile, if I want it I'll find it). Let me say, unless what I happened to pick up was for an 8 year old, if you have any type of curves and boobs bigger than mosquito bumps don't bother! Even Kim K. wouldn't fit into that medium sweater. Then there's the prices, $40 for a knit clutch that will more than likely start to come apart before Christmas? No thank you! For another $30 I can head over to TJ Maxx and find a Michael Kors large satchel bag or a couple of Lillly Pulitzer cardis plus a couple of pair of platform heels. So yeah unless this line goes on sale any time soon (which I doubt) I won't be wearing any Missoni for Target.

My second find of the week, at Dillard’s, was this pair of wedge sandals from who else? Michael Kors! I love him! Of course, I can’t afford him at regular price, but my shoe sale radar is getting much better thanks in part to ShopStyle.com. So when I went to Dillard’s to check out the espadrilles I found out that they were starting their summer shoe clearance. And with this never ending 100+ degree weather? I’m definitely going to get to use these sandals a lot! As a matter-of-fact I’m wearing them today with my capris for TGIF! So I’ll have an update on how well they worked at the office. The price is perfect for a girl on a budget. And now for your viewing pleasure my new sandals…..

@MichaelKors Meg Espadrille on sale at Dillard’s!

I love these espadrille’s! I originally received an email notice from ShopStyle.com that these were on sale, but as much as I loved how they looked I really wanted to try them on so I headed over to Dillard’s after work to see if the store had them on sale as well or if it was just an online sale. Surprise! Dillard’s is have their Summer Shoe Sale! #Winning
I can’t give you a full report since, I just bought them on Monday. I haven’t been able to really put them to the test yet, but I can tell you that this was the last pair in a size 6 and they were really comfortable wearing them around the shoe department. This color is called Bouganvilla, which after a Google search I found out is a type of flower. They also had a zebra print and are on sale for $24.15! Perfect for a girl on a budget.

I’d had my eye on these flip flops for a while, but we don’t have a Macy’s in our town and when it comes to shoes sometimes you just have to try them on. Well while we were on vacay I found a pair at Macy’s and they were on sale to boot! It was a toss up between the black and pink pair and I went with the pink ones because they matched my new bathing suit better. ;) Also they do run a bit small and I had to go with the size 7’s. No biggie. Where I had the problem was after wearing them for a day the design on the flip flop started to peel! I was really glad I didn’t pay full price for them, I would’ve taken them back but after that we spent the rest of our time at the beach and didn’t go back to the mall, of course that could’ve been my hubby’s evil plan…Well you live and learn. They are comfortable and I have worn them around town and gotten compliments on them and I did get them on sale so it wasn’t a major loss, but I think I’ll stick to my Havaianas

Simply Vera Vera Wang Richter Blue Peep-Toe Platform Heels

I love these heels! My MIL gave me a gift card to @Kohls_Official for my birthday (she knows how I love to shop!) so I splurged and bought these (among other things). They have a 4.5 inch heel and a one inch platform. At first I wasn’t sure how I would like the flat part on the front of the heel, but it doesn’t bother me. They’re very comfortable to wear at the office and I can make a trip to the mall or Target and my feet aren’t begging for me to switch into flats before the trip is over. Kohl’s seems to be sold out of them online, but I know the Kohl’s in my town still has them in stock, but sizes are dwindling!

My New Camera Necklace From @LeLapinDor!

Tuesday, June 7, 2011
0 comments
I ordered two necklaces from Le Lapin D’or last week when she was having a Memorial Day Sale. Hello, 30% off! Plus her pieces are already quiet affordable to begin with so I really got a good deal. This one is my favorite:
IMAG0302
It’s called the Picture Perfect Camera necklace and you can find it here. Mine is slightly different in that the “lens” part of the camera has a stone although the pic online could have a stone as well and it’s just the camera angle/flash that makes it look different, but I don’t mind because I like the bling. SmileThe chain that comes with it isn’t flimsy either. You know how sometimes you’ll buy a necklace, but will quickly change the chain because it just looks really cheap looking? Well you won’t do that with this one! Another thing I like about this shop is that I placed my order on Monday (which was a holiday) and by Tuesday morning my order was already shipped out! I love that!! And both of my necklaces were individually wrapped and came shipped in a box (a definite plus in my book). And you can reuse the bags! I already have my eye on a dress, can you guess which one?

Lauren Conrad Vermont Peep-Toe Heels

Last month my mother-in-law gave me a gift card to Kohl’s for my birthday (she always does and if she gave me something different I’d wonder what I did wrong lol) One of the things I bought with my gift card was this pair of Lauren Conrad Vermont Peep-Toe High Heels
         IMG_0178A IMG_0180A
I love the tan color and bow detail and they’re perfect for summer. They can also easily transition from office to date night and they’re very comfortable, you can definitely wear them all day! They seem to run true to size, I wear a size 6 and bought a size 6 – the last size 6 I might add. One thing I did notice is when I walk on pavement the heel tends to make a strange squeaky noise as if I’m dragging my feet, but definitely not something that would stop me from wearing them or a cause to return them. I definitely recommend buying a pair and right now this pair is on sale and if they turn out not to be your style or fit, Kohl’s has a great return policy.

Finally! A Camera Bag.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011
2 comments
A couple of years ago I finally upgraded from a point-and-shoot to a DSLR, but still used the same camera bag, which I decided to decorate a bit since I couldn’t find a girly bag that wasn’t going to cost me an arm and a leg. Then I added a zoom lens to the equation and my bag started to get quite full. My hubby felt bad for me and surprised me with a really cute camera bag, but it didn’t really work for me because it still didn’t fit everything! lol But I still couldn’t afford one of the bags I really wanted, so I started searching for an alternative. I started looking on Etsy and came upon some shops that make camera bag inserts or rather inserts you can put into any bag/purse you already own to convert it into a camera bag! Genius! After that I found some blogs that have tutorials on how to make your own insert, but unfortunately I one don’t know how to use a sewing machine and two there aren’t enough hours in the day for me to learn (maybe one day). So back to Etsy I went and after look at several shops and prices and after reading a blog post from Priddy Creations I decided to give Martilena a try, she was also having a Mother’s Day sale so hello! #winning. I picked the size I needed (I already had a bag I was going to use in mind) and the color (hot pink) and placed my order. Now let me tell you if you decide to place an order please be patient! She seems to be very busy if her FaceBook Page is any indication and it will take the full 15 business days before your insert arrives, but it’s definitely worth the wait!
The bag I chose I had actually used as a camera bag once before because it could hold all my gear and keep the sand out. I’m a big fan of Coach, but I can’t exactly afford it on my paycheck! Thank goodness I’m a great bargain shopper. One day I was on CraigsList and found someone selling a Coach bag for $50 (talked down to $40) it had actually been a bag that the person had bought for her husband to use as a diaper bag. Here’s a pic of the insert and bag by themselves:
IMG_0103A
I love that the velcro goes the length of the insert so I can reposition the dividers as needed. Don’t you love the color?
IMG_0116A
IMG_0118A
The outside has a zippered compartment I can use to put my keys, wallet, phone in and there’s two side pockets I can also use to slip my keys or phone in plus a bottle of water and the inside has several compartments to hold even more things in plus two more zippered compartments I can put my Kindle in along with my wallet for added security. And of course there’s the long strap I use to carry my bag as a cross-body bag. And here’s the bag and insert together.
IMG_0119A
Perfect fit! My bigger lens even has a hood on it and there’s still plenty of room. There’s even a side pocket on the insert that does fit my Kindle perfectly if I don’t use the Belkin sleeve I have it in. Right now I’m using the side pocket to carry around photos I’ve printed out. Here’s what it looks like with my camera:
IMAG0268
Yay!!! I have finally found a bag that suits my needs. I haven’t taken it out for a test drive, but everything fits inside with pockets to spare.

I wore this ensemble back in April when the sun wouldn’t melt you as soon as you stepped outside! I found my blazer on a trip to Grapevine Mills Mall. I had been looking for a blazer for a while, but wasn’t having any luck around town unless I wanted to spend $200 on one! Imagine my surprise when I found a BCBG MaxAzria Final Cut store at Grapevine Mills Mall. I was in heaven! Although my hubby was not. lol I found this blazer, that was originally $268, for $64, hello! #Winning. My necklace is one of those layered necklaces and it’s one of my favorites. I found it at this indoor marketplace. I love the gunmetal color, gunmetal seems to be my new favorite color besides shades of purple and blue.

I discovered this website while catching up on my celeb gossip at my favorite website DListed (Michael K is hilarious!) I rarely click on the advertisements on the sides, but these shoes caught my eye and well they were shoes so of course I was going to check them out! Smile
The shoes are by Soda and are called Octet Black & Beige Striped Slingback Wedge Heels. I think they’re sold out on LuLu’s website because I couldn’t find them on the site anymore, but I did find them at Amazon, but depending on your size they can be limited! The fit is true to size so if you wear a 6 order a 6. I received so many compliments the first day I wore them, I seriously thought someone was going to try and rip them off my feet! The day I wore them was quite busy at work (I wore them on Casual Friday with my capris) and I then had a mini mommy and son day and we went to the mall and I will admit, by the end of the day they did hurt a bit, but I didn’t get a chance to break them in, since I wore them the very next day after receiving them! I will definitely wear them again and see how my feet feel at the end of the day.

I love the silver circle accent on the strap and the bow is not too cutesy and they give the shoe just the right touch.

…and when dear Edward isn’t around I’ll settle for @kohls_official’s Candie’s Platform High heels. Not only are they a great pick-me-up, but they’re also very comfortable! I’ve worn these grocery shopping at Walmart and walks around Target and I wasn’t looking for some $5 flip flops to put on. You know what I’m talking about. Winking smileI’ve also worn these with different types of outfits from business attire to the more casual Jean Fridays. And it looks like I’m not the only one that’s falling in love with these shoes because they’re no longer available online and it doesn’t look like anyone is willing to part with theirs. I know I’m not!

And so does everyone else. It’s such a great Spring color and everyone is so sick of this cold weather I can understand how a simple cardigan could brighten up someone’s day. I must admit, it did put a bounce in my step! And the two days I wore it were a bit chilly, but it did keep me warm while I was outside. The big test was whether it would keep me warm at the office and I’m happy to report it did! Here’s how I wore it for the first time.

Hello Mr. Postman

Saturday, March 19, 2011
1 comments

The Postman has arrived at Dillard’s! I must admit looking at this bag online didn’t make my heart skip a beat, but once I had my hands on it, it knocked the Word Up satchel right off it’s pedestal! The Mr. Postman satchel actually has a back pocket that opens unlike the Word Up that only appears to have pockets on the outside. It comes in two different colors a light pink/rose color and a black/newspaper print shade. I prefer the light pink. Here’s a look at the two colors side by side.

IMAG0075

I love the lock accent on the front, which is not an additional pocket, from what I could tell anyway. And of course it has the detachable strap so that you can carry it as a cross-body, which I love. If I know I’m going shopping I definitely carry a purse I can wear cross-body, which is why I own two of Kathy’s Croco Club Cross-body bags.

IMAG0087

You would be amazed at what you can stuff in there! I originally bought the yellow at Dillard’s and when I spotted the other one at Ross I had to snap it up for a Fall bag last year.

So there’s a preview of the Mr. Postman and if you don’t have a Dillard’s in your town it looks like the only place to order the Mr. Postman is at QVC. Except it looks like QVC may be out of the pink color and only has the black and white in stock. Also if you look at the Mr. Postman QVC is calling “multi” it looks like it has a much darker tint to it than what I spotted at Dillard’s and the smell that was mentioned in the reviews I didn’t notice at the ones in Dillard’s. So which is your fave of Kathy’s newest bags?

A few weeks ago I entered a giveaway over at A Fashion Fixation. Imagine my surprise when I won! I couldn't wait to get my new cardigan!! Well it arrived today and I love it! It's a perfect color for Spring and its a 3/4 length sleeve so it should keep you warm in the office but is still lightweight enough to be worn outdoors. I'm actually considering wearing it tomorrow because I can't wait to wear it. Lol If I do I will write up another post and let you know how it held up during the day.

Thanks again for the giveaway Ashley!

@Kathy_VZ’s new Word Up bags

Kathy VZ Satchel
Kathy VZ Cross-body
I spotted these fabulous bags as I was walking through Dillard’s on Saturday and I’m in love with the print on the bag! I thought my fave would be the bigger satchel bag since, well, it’s bigger and would hold more, but when I compared it to the (just a bit) smaller x-body they both seem to have the same amount of room on the inside. The satchel looks like it has two flaps on the front and back, but they seem to be just for looks, when I got home I looked on the Dillard’s website and in the description it did say that there were two magnetic flaps. But unless the flaps were sewn shut for shipping purposes I didn’t see that the satchel at the store had magnetic pockets on the outside and I couldn’t find a sales person to ask.
The Word Up X-Body satchel in white is definitely my favorite. I didn’t get a chance to try it on with the longer strap since the strap was still wrapped (which tells me that Dillard’s must’ve just gotten these bags in), but there’s definitely enough room on the inside for what I need to carry plus there’s an outside pocket on the front/back (depending on which why you carry it) that fits my mobile phone (EVO) perfectly and two additional pockets on either side. Now I’m going to have to decide whether I should get the x-body satchel or wait and get the Kindle I’ve been saving up for, which by the way the Kindle would fit in the smaller x-body. Why did I have to go into Dillard’s?!?
If you don’t have a Dillard’s in your town, Amazon has the the x-body in stock but they’re very limited and if the satchel or x-body aren’t for you the shopper is available at QVC and I recommend going there because it’ll save you about $20.

@CharlotteRusse Faux Patent Peep-Toe Pumps

IMG_9136A
I bought these when Charlotte Russe was having their buy one pair at regular price and get the second pair for $15. I bought them in the nude color since I didn’t have a pair of nude heels in my closet and I bought them in my usual shoe size so they do run true to size, if you wear a half-size I’d recommend going up a size . They are comfortable to wear, but do take some “breaking in” especially in the heel which can be a bit stiff. I’ve mainly wore them to the office and I’m not always on my feet, but I have worn these on quick trips to the mall and Target and my feet didn’t hurt at the end. Everyone needs a pair of nude heels in her closet and at $25.50 these shoes are a great buy! You can check them out here.

I love my Duel boots!!

IMG_9221A
I found these Carlos by Carlos Santana Duel boots at Amazon. I had originally thought I would get them in the tan color, but they looked a bit too western for me (I prefer Ariats for my cowgirl boots) then I saw the taupe color in suede and decided to order them instead. Here’s the best part…I only paid $37 for a $200 pair of boots! Woo hoo!
Lucky for me Amazon does allow customers to post reviews and one thing I did read in just about all the reviews was the recommendation to order a half-size up, which I did and I would recommend as well. These do slouch a bit as you can tell in the photo above, but it’s just a slight slouch and nothing that would make me return them. I wore these to work, walked around Walmart and at a local park and they didn’t hurt my feet at all at the end of the day. I love the studs on the side of the boot, they add just the right touch to the boot and it’s just on one side and the other side of the boot looks like this.
IMG_9239A
You can see by this photo I decided to wear them with a denim skirt, I’d like to try them with skinny jeans-if I ever find a pair that actually works on me. One thing I did do was buy some Kiwi Suede Protector to spray on them since there was some rain in the forecast, luckily it didn’t rain so I didn’t get to put the spray to the test, but I feel better knowing their protected. Smile
So there you have it my new Duel boots by Carlos by Carlos Santana. My other boots are jealous!

About Me

My photo
I love to shop and if I can find my favorites at a bargain all the better. What are my favorites? My top two are Michael Kors and Kate Spade, how can you beat a combo like that? My favorite place to hunt for a bargain? Just call me a Maxxonista! I love TJ Maxx! This is the place where I'll tell you all about my finds, how I like them and how I pull it all together. If you'd like to send me something to review shoot me an email and let's talk!
